What is WOTC? The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit available to employers who hire from certain target groups — including veterans. Credits range from $2,400 to $9,600 per qualifying veteran hire and directly reduce your federal income tax liability dollar for dollar. Most SMB employers either don't know about it or miss the critical 28-day filing window. VetCredit closes that gap.

Rules Every Employer Must Know

⚠ The 28-Day Rule ?
Form 8850 must reach your State Workforce Agency within 28 days of the veteran's first day of work. Missing this deadline forfeits the credit permanently.

⚠ Hours Worked Matter ?
400+ hours = full credit (40% of wages). 120–399 hours = partial credit (25%). Under 120 hours = no credit.

📋 Two Forms Required ?
IRS Form 8850 — Pre-Screening Notice. Submit to SWA within 28 days.
ETA Form 9061 — Individual Characteristics Form. Submit with Form 8850.

⚠ Lookback Recovery: WOTC credits can only be claimed in the tax year wages were paid. If Form 8850 was not filed within 28 days, some states accept late submissions with good-cause documentation. This tool identifies potential unclaimed credits — your CPA determines recoverability. ?

Past Veteran Hires

Enter each veteran hired during your lookback window. Any employer who hired veterans in the last 3 years without a formal WOTC program likely has unclaimed credits.

⚠ Reference Tool Only: This pre-fills your Form 8850 data for reference. The official IRS Form 8850 must be obtained from irs.gov. Submit within 28 days of hire to your State Workforce Agency alongside ETA Form 9061.
